First victory for Lee, the blues suffering
The Genesis Championship in South Korea was the final stop of the DP World Tour regular season. Of capital importance for many players, it was a local player who stood out. There were also tournaments on the PGA Tour and the LET. Here’s everything you need to know.
DP World Tour – Genesis Championship
Korean Junghwan Lee made the big move of the week by winning in -11. It is essential for the first time in his career on the DP World Tour. He is ahead Laurie Canter et Nacho Elvira (-8).
This home victory allows Junghwan Lee to gain 244 places in the Race To Dubai rankings and find himself 63th. He therefore joins the field of players qualified for this season’s playoffs.
In South Korea, David Ravettodéjà assured of his place on the DP World Tour until 2026 thanks to his Czech success, concluded the tournament at 54th position (+1). Martin Couvreraon the other hand, is having a more difficult time. Long in the race for direct qualification on the PGA Tour, he has not found his way back to the Top 10 since June. Its 60th place (+2) does it go back to 14th likes from Racenow placing him under pressure before the major deadlines in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
He will nevertheless contest the play-offs du DP World Tour alongside by Adrien Saddieralready qualified for the PGA Tour, as well as d’Ugo Coussaud et Romain Langasque. Jeong Weon Koranked 72thcould still hope for a place in the event of withdrawals. As for Clement Sordethe will have to go through the European cards to try to maintain his status on the circuit.
Next week, the 70 best players of the DP World Tour season will therefore compete on the Yas Links in Abu Dhabi (November 06 – 09) for this first playoff tournament. At the end of this tournament, the 50 best players at the Race To Dubai will compete in Dubai in a final that promises to be epic.
PGA Tour – Bank of Utah Championship
The American Michael Brennan wins the title thanks to a sponsor exemption. He won after only 3 appearances on the PGA Tour! In -22, he is ahead Rico Hoey (-18). Behind them, David Ford, Thorbjorn Olesen, Ben Silverman, Justin Lower, Pierceson Coody et Matt McCarty finish in 3rd place (-16).
It’s the nice surprise of the weekend. Unexpected in the foreground, Michael Brennan revealed himself at the Bank of Utah Championship. The young American, who until then had only taken part in a single Korn Ferry Tour event this season, without making the cut, only counted three victories on the PGA Tour Americas on his record. However, he dominated the tournament with authority this Sunday, taking advantage of ideal conditions and bright sunshine to achieve a success as clear as it was unexpected.
Unfortunately for our two French people involved, it was more complicated. Antoine Rozner did not make the cut and Victor Perez finishes at 47th place (-7), which puts him back in the FedEx Cup standings and makes him miss an opportunity to secure the card for next season.
PGA Tour players will be in Mexico to play the World Wide Technology Championship from November 6 to 9. There are 3 tournaments left to try to keep your card for next season.
LET – Wistron Ladies Open
Ya Ni Tseng wins in -14. She imposes herself in front Amelia Garvey (-10). The Irish Lauren Walsh finishes at 3th place (-9).
The Frenchwoman of the week is Agathe Sauzon. She finished at 21th place (-4). Behind her we find Perrine Delacour et Céline Herbin at 34th place (-3). Nadaud Nastasia finished in 67th place (by total).
